Return of the King
Many cultures have return of the king myths. A great leader from the past returns to save the land from disaster at the darkest hour. Arthur, Jesus, Aragorn himself. I've always wondered how that type of archetype could be applied in an American context.
Here's the scenerio I came up with...
A great crisis strikes the United States- perhaps the president decides he is not bound to respect the decisions of the Supreme Court - leading to the brink of a new Civil War. The country is only saved when it is determined that, by means of preserved genetic material, Abraham Lincoln has been cloned, and has reached adulthood. This Lincoln clone reluctantly allows himself to be nominated and elected president by one faction in the war and leads that side to victory, reuniting the country and preserving the rule of constitutional law.
Question: If Lincoln did return to again seek high office, would he run as a Democrat or Republican?
I've read that, in real life, those rascally scientists have successfully taken a female rat embryo, injected some genes, and turned it into a male. Could the process be reversed, turning a male into a female? Could disappointed Hillary fans be placated by having Abigal Lincoln elected to the highest office in the land? Could an Abigal clone mate with an Abe clone, thus creating a whole super-race of Lincolns, to serve as congressmen and senators and Supreme Court justices, as well as President? Why not also the governorships? The state legislatures? Even down to mayors and county officials? Could the entire governmental apparatus of this great land be turned over to the capable hands of honest Abe?
