Big Pine Hill
My son spent the week at Boy Scout Camp Barton, near Ithaca. I took the day off on Friday to drive there and pick him up. It's about two hundred and fifty miles away from our home on Long Island.
On the way up, I made a detour into the Poconos and took a five mile hike in the Lackawanna state forest called "Big Pine Hill". I've been hiking a lot near home this Spring and Summer. It was fun to wander through a different type of ecosystem.
After the hike I continued up to Ithaca and checked into my motel room at the very inappropriately named "EconoLodge". The next morning I got up early and explored the area around Lake Cayuga, including a very impressive waterfall. Afterwards, I spent and a few hours at the Boy Scout camp and then drove my son and three other scouts home.
