Take It Easy – But Pay Attention, Damnit!

I really enjoyed reading Work Ethic 2.0: Attention Control, by Mike Elgan.

Elgan makes the point that it’s not how many hours we work that’s important.  It’s how focused we are when we’re doing work.

There’s no point in staying at the office till nine at night if you’re going to be responding to every random email, playing Mafia Wars on Facebook or tracking seven hundred RSS feeds.

Making matters worse, indulging these distractions looks just like work. And it's easy to work and play at the same time -- and call it work.

You’re much better off staying at your desk fewer hours, but spending your time actually focusing on what it is you’re trying to get done.
