Week 34 - Impossible Dreams 15
Episode 4
Lucy sits in the kitchen, holding a pen and staring at a sheet of paper. Powell steps in and sits down. "How is he?" she asks, softly.
"Sleeping..."
She rests the pen on the table. "He must have burned thousands of dollars worth of comic books!"
"Um... More like hundreds of thousands."
"What if he goes crazy like that during the board meeting? Powell, you have to let me call Sleepy Meadows. Dr. Seren said he would come down here if I needed him. He could give daddy something to keep him calm..."
Powell shakes his head. "No! You promised me! That place is... It's like a dark attic where things get shoved when no one wants them anymore. Except... instead of old junk, it's filled with leftover people. Mr. Lamont deserves better than that."
Lucy sighs. "I'm so close... Everything I've been working for... I just need to keep things under control till after the vote..."
Powell looks at the papers on the table. "What's all this?"
"I'm working on the speech daddy will give, endorsing me to become the new CEO."
"Um... You're writing his speech?"
"He said it was all right." She reaches for Powell's hand. "You're such a good writer... Would you look it over for me? I'm sure you could help me get it perfect."
"All right..." He yawns. "But, um... tomorrow. It's been a long day and I have a meeting at work in the morning. I think tonight... I think I'll just head home tonight..."
They walk to the front door. "I'm sorry I've been so tense," Lucy says. "Everything will be easier after the meeting. Everything will be better. I promise you."
Powell nods. They kiss and he leaves.
Lucy walks back to the kitchen and sits at the table. She picks up one of the papers and stares at it. After a few moments she lets it drop and looks across the room at the phone that hangs on the wall.
She stands up, takes a small address book from the counter and walks to the phone. She opens the book, picks up the receiver and punches a number.
"Hello," she says, "is this Sleepy Meadows? This is Lucy Lamont... I'm sorry to call so late, but would it be possible for me to talk with Dr. Seren?"
