Week 33 - Impossible Dreams 14
Episode 5
Powell visits Donald Lamont in the hospital. "You look a little bit better, sir," Powell says. "A little, um... stronger."
Lamont shakes his head. "Without the Mystical Talisman, I'm a shadow of my former self. Have you made any progress locating it?"
"I... no, I... I haven't."
Lamont slumps back. "Please... continue searching... My mission... It's becoming harder for me to hold it in my mind. It's all starting to fade..."
The door opens and Lucy steps in and hugs her father . "I just spoke with Dr. Goldschmidt, daddy. He says you're doing great! You should be able to go home in a day or two!" She pulls up a chair and sits next to the bed. "Did Powell have a chance to tell you about the wonderful retirement home we visited up in Albany?"
"I told you, Lucille, I'm not interested in any retirement home. I have too much to do right here."
"But Daddy, you should at least look the place over. We can all take a ride together, after the board meeting next week. The grounds are spectacular!"
"I don't care about the grounds! I can't go to live in Albany! Have you forgotten the great peril the nation is in? At this very moment, Captain Camouflage is... he's..." Lamont frowns. His face becomes confused, and he looks at Powell.
"Um... He's assembling his Illusion Ray Satellite, in orbit?"
"Yes! That's right! When he's done he'll trigger the ray and plunge the country into chaos!" He frowns again. "How could I have forgotten?"
Lucy stands up. "Powell, can you help me with something in the hall for a moment?" He nods and they step out of the room. "Why are you encouraging him?" she demands. "We have to convince him to come with us to Sleepy Meadows! You know he needs help! They can give it to him!"
"The only way they know how to help people there is to... to shoot them full of drugs and lock them behind an iron gate!" Powell shakes his head. "It's not right. Not that place. You have to promise me... Promise me or I'm leaving right now!"
"Powell!" She grabs his shoulders. "Please, don't say that. I need you! I don't have anyone else. You have to help me keep things together until the meeting!"
"Only if you promise. No Sleepy Meadows."
Lucy stares at him for a moment and bites her lip. "All right, I promise.... No Sleepy Meadows."
