Week 32 - Impossible Dreams 13
Episode 2
Powell leans back on the couch in the den in the Lamont home. His eyes are closed. After a few moments, Lucy walks in. She kisses him softly on the forehead and his eyes open. "I... I think I fell asleep," he says. "When did you get in?"
"Just now. I'm glad to get to see you before you go out... But you look exhausted!"
He sighs. "My boss... he made me... he hated my draft of the story about your father."
"That's terrible!" She sits down next to him. "You've been working all week on it!"
"He's right though. I got carried away with my own... my own musings. I forgot the basic stuff from Writing 101... just let the story speak for itself." He looks at her. "I still feel... weird... writing about your dad like this... I mean... I'm using his name..."
"He wouldn't mind. And besides... by the time it's printed daddy will be in the sanatorium in Albany. He'll never even see it."
"Don't they... don't they get magazines there?"
"They keep it completely isolated from the outside world."
Powell looks at her. "But what about you? I mean... I know you'll get control of the company at the meeting... but... couldn't you lose it again after the article comes out?"
Lucy shakes her head. "The shareholders can only vote once a year. By the time another meeting can be called, I'll have completely solidified my hold. As long as no one finds out about my father's condition by next week, I'll have nothing to worry about."
"But my article... I mean... some parts are pretty embarrassing."
"I said you could write whatever you wanted if you protected him till the meeting. You kept your side of the bargain, I'll keep mine." She gently rubs his cheek. "But you're so tired... And daddy's still coughing a little... Do you really have to go out? Can't you talk him into staying home?"
Powell shakes his head. "Forget it. Tonight's a big night. We're heading back to Cosmoland Park. We're supposed to find the launch bay for the third component of Captain Camouflage's Illusion Ray Satellite there. It's our last chance to stop him from being able to assemble it in space."
"Well... we wouldn't want him to be able to do that!"
Powell grins. "Don't worry! Pan Boy will be on the job." He stands up and stretches. "I'd never be able to talk your dad into waiting another night. And besides..."
"Besides what?"
"This whole Captain Camouflage thing... I want to see how it all comes out!"
