Week 31 - Impossible Dreams 12

Episode 5

Donald Lamont slumps forward in a chair at his kitchen table.  Powell and Lucy stand next to him.  "Give me... the antidote... quickly...," Lamont mumbles.  "Can't...  fight the plague...  much longer..."  He coughs and holds out a shaky hand.

"Here you are sir," Powell says.  He passes him a test tube filled with colorful crumbs dissolved in a yellow liquid.

Lamont grabs it, thrusts it to his mouth, and drinks the contents in a single gulp.  His mouth puckers and he erupts in a furious fit of coughing.  "Water..." he finally gasps.  Lucy runs to the sink and hands him a cup, which he drinks.  "The formula...  is working..." he says.  His body begins to slowly straighten in the chair.  "I can feel... my strength... returning..."

Powell flashes a grin at Lucy.  Then his face becomes solemn and he looks at Lamont.  "The Microbe Master was a tricky foe...  but... um...  we finally defeated him in the end."

"It's fortunate that you did."  Lamont stands up.  "The germ he engineered was using my Talisman enhanced cell structure to transmute into a hyper virulent form.  Another few minutes and it would have succeeded...  Not only would I have been killed, but it would have quickly spread throughout the world...  It's very likely that the human race would have been completely wiped out."

"I'll make coffee!" Lucy says.  "Why don't you two boys go to the den, I'll bring it when it's ready."

"We've defeated one villainous plan," Lamont says, as he and Powell walk though the house, "but we remain stymied against another.  The third component of Captain Camouflage's Illusion Ray Satellite.  We failed to prevent the first two from reaching orbit.  And we still don't know the location of the last launch area."

They step into the den and Powell sits on a couch.  A stack of comic books rests on the coffee table.  Powell picks one up and his eyes widen.  It is an issue of Batman from the early 1940's.

"I have to think," Lamont says as he begins to pace.  "Captain Camouflage is nothing, if not a traditionalist.  Where do supervillains typically locate their lairs?"

Powell carefully puts down the comic.  "Um...  Warehouses?  Underground complexes?  Abandoned factories?"

"No.  None of those are quite right.  It has to be something old fashioned, something obvious..."  Lamont stares blankly at the mantle over the fireplace.  Then his eyes snap sharply into focus.  He picks up the white teddy bear that had been resting there and holds it out to Powell.

Lamont stares at the logo on the bear's tee shirt.  He points to the words "Cosmoland".
