Week 31 - Impossible Dreams 12
Episode 2
Powell and Lucy pull out of the Lamonts' driveway in Lucy's car. "Will you take that off already!" Powell says. "You look... you look ridiculous."
Lucy laughs. "I don't think you're in any position to give me fashion tips 'Pan Boy'! But it does make it hard to drive. I guess I'll retire Coyote Girl." She pulls the mask off. "But don't worry... if she's ever needed, you can always call on her!"
"Ha. Ha." Powell says. "I don't think it's funny. Your father takes this stuff very seriously. That was... that was pretty cruel, taking his mask."
"It's the only way I could think of to make sure he doesn't go out tonight. He's sick, he should be in bed."
"Don't you... I mean, don't you feel guilty, leaving him there, like that? He really is ill."
Lucy imitates her father's voice. "'A terrible plague that could wipe out all humanity!' I heard him... He has allergies. He gets like this, this season every year, at least once or twice. It'll pass by morning."
Powell shakes his head. "Not if we don't find him an antidote... I'm... I'm starting to see how this all works. The only way to... to control him, to keep him out of trouble... is to play along. He thinks he's sick because a supervillain engineered some sort of disease. If we want him to get well, we have to... to respond in those terms."
"I say we figure all that out later. Do you realize we've never really spent a night out together? We probably won't get another chance till after the board meeting. I think we should enjoy ourselves for a change."
"Um... It would be nice to... to just spend time with each other."
"I have an idea! A new amusement park just opened up, Cosmoland Park, a half hour drive from here. They have this Observation Tower I was reading about, it's supposed to be the tallest structure in Suffolk County! We should go up, it'd be romantic."
"Oh... Um... The thing is... I kind of... don't like high places..."
She looks at him. "Really?"
"It's... it's nothing serious... I just get uncomfortable, a little nauseous..."
"The big, bad superhero is afraid of heights!" She giggles. "Too bad Pan Boy can't fly... You could swoop down from the sky and throw up all over your enemies!"
"Don't... don't make fun of me, I hate that."
"I'm sorry." She takes his hand. "Come on. Let's go to Cosmoland. We don't have to go on the tower. It'll be fun. I promise."
