Week 28 - Impossible Dreams 11
Episode 3
New Jersey. Night. Coyote Man and Pan Boy stand outside an electric fence that surrounds a large field filled with wind turbines. From inside, they hear the fierce bark of a dog.
"This is Garrick Field," Lamont says. "It's the first wind farm my company built."
"Um... I thought wind power wasn't really economical on the east coast."
"A lot of people thought that. I proved them wrong." Lamont reaches into a pouch at his belt and pulls out a ring of keys. "I picked these up at the offices. The master keys for this entire operation. Now... Which is for the entrance? Ah!" He fingers one key and pushes it into a lock by a gate in the fence. It swings open. He pulls the key out and hands the ring to Powell. "Hold this, Pan Boy..." He steps into the field.
Powell shoves the key ring into his pocket and follows, listening nervously as the barking grows louder. "Won't... um... won't there be... security? I mean... it's the middle of the night and... we're in these costumes..."
"Do not fear, young friend. As Donald Lamont I called the foreman earlier today and rearranged the duty shifts. The legitimate security staff of Lamont Energy won't be a problem. But stay on guard! We must still be alert for the henchmen of Captain Camouflage..."
As they walk deeper into the field, the barking suddenly stops. The only sound is the hum of the wind turbines - tall, thin, metal latticed, conical towers, dominated by propeller type blades that spin fiercely at the top.
"Now," Lamont says, "we must locate the launch bay for the second component of Camouflage's Illusion Ray Satellite. If he succeeds in assembling all three components in space and then activating the ray... The whole country will be plunged into chaos! Where could..." Lamont scans the field. "There!" He points toward the far edge, behind the foreman's shack, where a giant crane is parked, next to a half constructed turbine, much taller than the others.
"Oh," Powell says, as he looks at the turbine. "I know what that is... The Aero III... Lucy was showing me pictures of it..."
Lamont shakes his head. "No, no!" He points a bit to the side. "That!"
"Um... You mean the crane..."
"I'm sure it appears as such to you. But my Mystical Talisman reveals the truth." He begins to run toward it. "We must hurry. The launch sequence is about to engage."
Powell follows him. As they pass the foreman's shack, they hear a loud growl.
Suddenly, a fierce rottweiler leaps in front of them. Deafening barks burst from its vicious jaws.
