Week 27 - Impossible Dreams 10

Episode 2

They continue down the hallway until Lamont stops them in front of a closed door.  A plaque hangs next to it, labeled "Mark Lamont, Vice President".

"This was my brother's office," Lamont says.  "If we are to find any evidence of Captain Camouflage's hideouts, I'm betting it will be here."  He tries the doorknob, but it is locked.  He pulls a key from his pocket, sticks it in the hole and turns it.  The knob clicks and the door opens.  They step in.

"Um...  Should we be, um...  going in here, like this?" Powell asks.  "I mean...  It seems kind of weird..."

"My nephew has been using this office since my brother's feigned death.  But I built this company and I'll go where I will."  Lamont shuts the door behind him.  The lock clicks.

The office is ornately furnished, dominated by an oak desk and a leather chair.  On one wall hangs a large portrait of a handsome, middle aged man.  Lamont stares at it and, for a moment, his face fills with rage.  Then he looks around.  "Where are the files?" he asks.  "Michael had a cabinet on that wall..."

Powell points to a computer on the desk.  "Maybe your nephew's more, um... modern."

"Good thinking!"  Lamont runs to the machine and turns on the monitor.  After a moment, he frowns.  "Look here."

Powell joins him behind the desk.  On the screen is a window that says "Username:" and "Password:".

"It's fortunate that I brought you, young friend," Lamont says.  "You must use your extraordinary hacking skills to break into the system."

"Um...  extraordinary hacking skills?" Powell repeats.

Lamont runs to the door.  "In the meantime...  I have other leads to pursue."  He pulls at the doorknob, but it is locked.  He grabs his key, turns it in the hole, and it opens.  "I'll rejoin you shortly!" he calls.  He steps out and the door slams behind him.

"What!" Powell yells.  "Wait!"  He runs to the door and tries to open it.  It doesn't budge.  "Oh great!  Just great!"  He tries the knob once more.  Then he walks behind the desk and sits on the leather chair.  He stares at the monitor.  "Just great," he repeats.  He types a few random characters into the form on the screen and hits Enter.  "UNKNOWN USER," the computer responds, "PLEASE TRY AGAIN."  Powell sighs.  He leans back in the chair and closes his eyes.

After a few minutes, there is a click at the door.  "Thank god!" Powell says, leaping to his feet.

The door opens and a large security guard steps in.
