Week 20 - Impossible Dreams 7

Episode 4

They return to Lamont's home.

"We did well, young friend," Lamont says, as he pulls off his Coyote mask. "I see that I made the right decision in choosing you as my ally."

"Uh, thanks..." Powell says, as he changes from his costume to his regular clothes.

They walk to the kitchen, where they are greeted by Lucy. "Well," she says, "did you two have an eventful night?"

"Nothing you need concern yourself with, Lucille," Lamont says. "Suffice to say that many innocents can sleep safely in their beds, with no fear of incineration, thanks to our efforts."

"Oh, well, that's good. Would you like some coffee?"

"No... I am weary and I must rest." He turns to Powell. "Be here tomorrow night, my boy. Today, we won a battle... but the war continues! Farewell." He steps out of the room.

After a few moments, Lucy shakes her head and takes a deep breath. "What did he mean, 'no fear of incineration'?" she asks.

"Um... We saved Huntington from being blown up by an atomic bomb."

"Oh..." She gestures toward a percolator on the counter. "Would you like a cup?"

"Uh... Okay. It's a long train ride home..."

She opens a cabinet and takes down a mug. "What really happened?"

"Your father... he destroyed a mailbox..."

"Oh..." She pours the coffee. "Do you think anyone recognized him?"

"Um... I doubt it..." Powell takes the cup. "It was... It was all really fast..."

"Will you come back tomorrow?"

"I... I have to... My boss wants me to, he really wants the story..." He takes a sip of coffee. "And besides..."

"Besides, what?"

"It was..." He looks at her. "It was actually, kind of fun..."
