Week 19 - Impossible Dreams 6
Episode 5
Powell, dressed in the costume, talks with Lucy. They stand in front of the garage of the Lamont home. It is late in the evening.
"I appreciate what you're doing for us, Mr. Powell," Lucy says. "I know you must feel... odd... in that outfit."
Powell shrugs. "Uh... I'm just... just trying to pretend it's Halloween..."
"That's a good attitude." Lucy smiles. "I'm glad you're here to help us. I've really been afraid my father was going to hurt himself... or someone else."
The garage door opens and Donald Lamont steps out. His face is covered by a plastic Coyote mask. He wears a sweatshirt emblazoned with a large "C". A long bath towel hangs at his back, from where it is safety pinned at his neck. Several pouches swing loosely from his thick belt.
"So, Pan Boy!" he calls to Powell, his voice somewhat muffled from the mask. "Are you ready for your first night of action?"
Powell stares at him. "Wow..." he says.
"Is something distressing you?" Lamont asks.
"Uh... no... it's just that... I've never seen you in, uh, costume before..."
Lamont nods. "Yes. The sight of Coyote Man can be overwhelming. The uniform was designed to terrify evildoers."
"It's chilly tonight, daddy," Lucy says. She steps in front of Lamont and begins to straighten the towel. "Don't you think you should wear a jacket or something?"
"Hush, Lucille!" He brushes her away. "Don't embarrass me in front of Pan Boy." He turns toward Powell. "Now, young friend. Are you ready to board... The Coyote Mobile?" He waves toward a car in the garage.
Powell looks at it. "Uh... That's a Honda Civic Sedan... From... um, around 1994, I think. My mom has one just like it..."
"It has been disguised to so appear, yes," Lamont says. "In actuality, it is a specially designed, turbo charged, armor plated speedster."
"Um... Okay."
Lamont opens the driver's seat door and
steps in the car. He beckons to Powell, who
gets in at the passenger side. Lamont starts
the engine. "And so, Pan Boy," he
says, "it's finally time to go out on
patrol!"
