Week 18 - Impossible Dreams 5

Episode 5

Powell waits for an elevator in a hall outside the magazine's offices. After a moment, he is joined by Shari Kern.

"Hey Boy Wonder!" she greets him.

"Uh... hi... Why did you call me that?"

"'Cause Rantz says you're going to dress up like Robin and fight crime!"

"Oh... um... not really Robin..."

"He says you're going to write a book about it. He was wasting my time all day doing projections about how much money we'll make selling it to subscribers."

The elevator arrives and they step on.

"Uh...," Powell says. "I still haven't really decided if I'll do it..."

"Hey! Are you gonna get to wear those funky green shorts! Those were radical!"

"No... I mean, I might have to wear some sort of costume, but..."

"You think you'll have to shave your legs? Robin's not supposed to have hairy legs is he? Did the guy on the T. V. show shave his legs?"

"I don't know... Um, I'm not actually going to be dressed like Robin... I mean... if I do it..."

"I think it's cool!"

"You do?"

"Sure. Acting bizarre and then writing a book! That's more than anyone else in this dead end of a company ever did... I mean, they act bizarre all the time, but they don't write books.... I told my boyfriend... he's totally into it. He thinks I should make it a song..."

"A song!"

"Sure... my stuff is, like, urban folk... It could be, 'The Ballad of the Sidekick's Lament' or something."

Powell stares at her. The elevator reaches the ground floor and the doors open. They step off and then exit the building. Powell waves to the left. "Um... I have to head this way," he says.

"Okay, have a good night." Shari walks off to the right and then turns back. "Say hi to Aunt Harriet for me!"
