Week 16 - Impossible Dreams 3

Episode 5

Shari Kern steps up to Powell's cubicle.

"Hey..." she says.

"Oh... uh, hey," Powell answers. "What... what can I do for you?"

"My boyfriend's playing at an Open Mike tomorrow, right after work... he's going to perform one of my songs... something I wrote... think you could make it?"

"Oh... right after work? Um... I have to go to Long Island tomorrow... I don't think I'll be back till late."

"Long Island! Why would you want to go to that wasteland?"

"It's for an article... I... I think I've figured out who Coyote Man is!"

Shari sneers. "Coyote Man! I can't believe you people are so interested in that loser!"

"He is interesting! He's a real life superhero... at least he thinks he is..."

"He's a creepy freak!"

"No! I mean... He's sort of inspiring... he has a dream and he... he lives it."

"He lives a fantasy that has nothing to do with reality. That's just pathetic... Anyway, this sucks! We need a big crowd for the performance tomorrow."

"Why don't you ask Rantz? Or Harry?"

She crinkles her face in disgust. "Eww... that'd be so not cool! It'd be like having my grandfathers at the club..."

"What difference does it make how many people are there?"

"Sometimes the record companies send scouts and stuff to these things. We need a bunch of people to cheer for us... you know, to impress anyone from the industry who's there... if we're lucky we could get a contract!" She lowers her voice. "Dump this nine to five scene so fast..."

"Oh... wow! Um... Well, good luck..."

Shari shrugs. "Thanks. Have fun chasing Out-Of-Touch-With-Reality Man." She leaves.
