Week 16 - Impossible Dreams 3
Episode 2
"Um," Powell says. "So what did you do? Isn't it your job to... I guess... to keep the intersection clear?"
"Hey! I tried, buddy! I told the guy 'Get the hell out of the road, you wanna get yourself killed?' So he just looks at me and he says 'Madam...' Can you imagine? I don't think anyone's ever called me that before... Except maybe a waiter, come to think of it, at this posh French place my husband used to take me, back when he gave a damn..." She looks at Powell. "Don't write that, though..."
"Uh... I won't."
"So he says to me, 'Madam, this is the teleportation grid to the Justice League Satellite.' And I say to him, 'Sir...' I said 'sir' because he called me 'madam' and I thought it'd be, like, funny to talk back to him the way he talked to me... So I said 'Sir... this is a cross walk. Now get out of the road!" So, now he's pissed. He says 'Madam... This is a teleportation grid and I have been summoned for an important mission. Now stop interfering or I shall be forced to take measures!' Well, now, that made me kind of mad, you know... 'Take measures!' What kind of measures was he gonna take? Was he gonna hit me or something? You could see the guy was old, so I wasn't afraid of him..."
"Did he... um... try to attack you?"
"Naw! He just sort of glared at me. So I figured, the thing to do, if you're in my line of work, when you get into trouble... you blow your whistle. You just keep blowing, and nine out of ten shmucks'll run away. So, I was just gonna start when this real slick red BMW stops right in the middle of the road... And this woman jumps out..."
"Uh... A woman?"
"More like a girl, really. Couldn't've been no more than twenty, twenty five... drop dead gorgeous, too... So she runs to the guy and starts trying to pull him into the car... And she's screaming 'Daddy, daddy! Let's go home, please!' And the guy in the mask is like 'Lucille, get out of here this instant! You'll expose my secret identity!' And she's like 'I won't leave unless you come with me!' And they go back and fourth, and eventually, the guy gets into the car with her and they drive away... And that's the last I saw of him."
"Lucille?" Powell says. "Coyote Man has a beautiful daughter he calls Lucille?"
"Guess so..." She shrugs. "Why? Figure that's a clue who he really is or something?"
Powell stares at her.
