Week 9 - Impossible Dreams, Prelude 2

Episode 4

Rantz, Liza and Hal are watching T. V. A commercial comes on and Rantz hits the mute button.

“So Powell finally decided he would write the article about Donald Lamont,” Rantz says, “even though it’s going to really embarrass Lamont’s family.”

“That’s sad,” Liza says.

“I get the feeling he’s trying to prove something. That he’s a real journalist, not just a fanboy hack…”

“That’s even sadder…”

“Plus, it’s a big story for the magazine. Harry might even give him a raise.”

“Smart man,” Hal says. “Go for the lettuce!”

“The what?” Rantz asks.

“The lettuce… the cheddar… it’s hip hop talk for money.”

“Where do you come off with hip hop talk?”

“Hey! I’m allowed.”

“No… you’re not! You’re a middle class white kid who lives on Long Island. You’re disqualified by income, race and geography.”

“Whatever…” Hal shrugs and turns back to the T. V.

Liza throws a dirty look at Rantz. “I think hip hop talk is preferable to sullen silence…”

Rantz sighs. “You’re right…” He looks at Hal. “I’m sorry. I apologize. Let’s be friends, all right? Let’s be… um… homies…”

Hal shudders. “Please, dad, no…”

“Maybe you were right…” Liza says to Rantz. “Maybe we should all just stick with the Queen’s English.”

“Jolly good…” Hal says.
