Week 8 - Impossible Dreams, Prelude 1
Episode 3
Powell has arrived at the luxurious Long Island home of Donald Lamont. He is greeted by Lamont’s beautiful young daughter, Lucy.
“I’m so glad you were able to come,” she says. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Oh…,” Powell looks down. “Um… I… I’m glad to meet you too…”
“I have to admit, I really wasn’t certain if it was a good idea for me to set up this interview… but now that I see you, I’m sure I did the right thing!”
“You… I mean… You set up the interview? I thought… your father…”
Lucy bites her lip. “Mr. Powell, I’d like to tell you something in confidence, but you have to give me your word you won’t print it.”
“Oh… wow… you mean, like, off the record?”
“Exactly.”
“Wow! I don’t usually… I mean, most of the stories I cover… you know, stuff like what villain the X-Men’ll fight next month… it’s not exactly Woodward and Bernstein stuff…”
“But if you tell me you promise to keep something to yourself, can I trust you?”
“Um… All right… Yes! I promise…”
Lucy nods. “Thank you, Mr. Powell… Here… why don’t we sit down…”
She leads him to an ornately furnished den. Over the finely carved fireplace hangs a painting in a thick, oak frame. It is a portrait of Superman’s “S” shield.
They sit opposite one another.
“Mr. Powell,” Lucy says. “My father is not a well man.”
