Week 7 - The Laptop
Episode 2
Rantz arrives home after purchasing a second family computer. He shows it off on the living room table to Liza and Hal.
“A laptop!” Hal yells. “You bought a laptop!”
Rantz grins. “Isn’t it slick?”
“Laptops can’t play games for sh… I mean for anything!”
“I figure, if I have to spend two hours on the train everyday anyway, I might as well get stuff done.”
“What a great idea,” Liza says. “Maybe you won’t have to work late so much…”
“What sort of video card does it have?” Hal demands. “Probably some piece of crap!”
“Watch your language!” Liza says. “What’s this?” She pulls a large shoulder bag from a cardboard box. “Nice…”
“Pure leather!” Rantz says. “I figure, if I’m gonna be lugging this thing around anyway, I might as well do it in style.”
Liza holds the case carefully in one hand. “It’s a little heavy though…”
“I know. It practically weighs more than the computer… But it has to be thick to protect it.”
“I just hope it doesn’t throw out your back…”
Hal thumbs through the manual. “There is no way this piece of crap is gonna run Death Zone 2!”
“I told you to watch your language!” Liza says.
“But I was looking forward to putting together a network, running death matches with my friends in the house!”
“Oh! And who are these mythical friends!” Liza says. “I haven’t seen you even talk to a single kid since we moved here, except for Chuck next door and you can’t stand him! Maybe if you didn’t spend all your time inside playing that horrible game you’d be more popular!”
“This sucks!” Hal slams down the manual and leaves the room.
Rantz has booted up the computer. He stares at the monitor. “Check it out!” he says. “It has seven different variations of solitaire!”
