Rantz sits in his office with Shari Kern, finishing a phone conversation. He hangs up, his face white with horror. “I don’t believe it…” he mutters.
“What?” Shari says.
“I’ve been summoned to report before the Third Circuit Municipal Sanitation Tribunal!”
“Garbage Court!”
“Garbage Court?”
“You are so busted!”
“I didn’t even know there was a Garbage Court…”
“They’re, like, completely hardass!”
“I’m charged with ‘Interfering with Sanitary Engineers in the Lawful Performance of their Duty’.”
“They got my cousin once for mixing cardboard and plastics.”
“All I was trying to do was throw away an old garbage can!”
“They sent him up for two years.”
“This is so unfair!”
“He started out as a good guy. But by the time he got out he became, like, a repeat offender.”
“I wonder if I need a lawyer…”
“He was throwing away toner cartridges, dumping stuff in empty lots, it was ugly…”
“Why is it always the little guy who gets screwed?”
Shari looks at the clock. “Can I go now?”
“Umm… We’re not really done yet… But I guess I won’t be able to concentrate anymore anyway…”
“Good.” She gets up. “You are so busted!” She leaves.
Rantz shakes his head slowly. “Garbage Court?”
