Week 4 - The Can - Part 2
Episode 2
Rantz stands in front of his house, next to the rusty, beat up can. The sun pokes over the horizon. A garbage truck ambles up the street, a man hanging on the side.
“Finally!” Rantz says.
The truck stops and the man leaps down.
“Hi… Good morning…,” Rantz says.
The man waves cheerfully and looks inside the old can. Observing that it is empty, he shrugs and begins to step back to the truck.
“No, wait!” Rantz calls. “That can! I want to throw it away.”
“Uhh… Ehchaka b’lam... N’b’lama falemblesh...”
“Oh… Um… This can... This can here... it’s garbage...”
“Ahh! Yah, yah, yah!” The man points toward the can. “Schlempa gahbage c’han. Yah, yah, gahbage c’han!” He smiles and hops back on the truck. “Ghood B’hye!”
“No, no! Wait! You don’t understand!”
The man gives another cheerful wave. Rantz runs to the front of the truck. A second man sits in the cab.
“Excuse me…,” Rantz says. “Um… I was trying to explain this to your… um… your colleague back there… But I don’t think he understands English…”
The driver nods.
“Um… I have this old can… I want to get rid of it… I want you to take it away…”
The driver frowns.
“Uh… It’s right back there…” Rantz points. “I’d really appreciate it if you guys could take away that old garbage can…”
The driver’s face lights with understanding. “Oh, oh, oh! Yah, yah! Schlempa gahbage c’han!” He waves.
The truck begins to pull away.
