Week 2 - Playing With Toys
Episode 3
Rantz, has just been introduced to Shari Kern, the Circulation Assistant.
“I’m looking forward to working with you Shari,” he says. “Harry speaks very highly of you.”
“I just want to make it clear from the beginning, I don’t do data entry.”
“Well, that should be all right, mostly… Usually we should be able to just download the data and paste it right into the reports… There might be some that I need you to do by hand though…”
“I don’t do data entry.”
“Uh… All right, we’ll deal with that when we come to it. In the meantime, maybe you can show me…”
“Also, I won’t take customer service calls. ‘I didn’t get my issue!’, ‘Why did you bill me when I already paid?’! I hate that stuff.”
“Well… most of those should be going to our fulfillment company. But if a customer’s got a serious problem one of us might have to deal with it ourselves.”
“As long as it’s not me.”
“I’ll tell you what… Let’s discuss all that later. For now, I’d like you to walk me through the different customer acquisition strategies you guys have been using.”
“And don’t even think about making me type for you!”
“I like to type my own letters…”
“Good, ‘cause I’m not a secretary!”
“I understand that… I’ll tell you what, why don’t you just show me where the customer acquisition reports are filed?”
“I don’t do filing!”
“I’m not asking you to file! I just want you to show me where to find some reports!”
Shari looks at her watch. “It’s almost lunchtime. I gotta go. I’ve gotta meet somebody.” She leaves.
Rantz stares at the chair where she had been sitting. “I’ll tell you what… How ‘bout I just find those reports myself…”
